This fascinating museum is partially the work of Father Sebastián Englert. He spent 30 years on the island from 1935 onward collecting artifacts. When he died in 1969 his collection became the property of the state, then many scientific surveys throughout the 1960s greatly added to the museum’s collection. A bonus is the art gallery which exhibits the work of local artists, and also the reasonably priced café.
