Easter Island lacks fine boutiques, but there is a treasure chest of souvenir shops to explore. Most are concentrated along Av. Atamu Tekena and Av. Te Pito o Te Henua. For replica Moai, don your haggling hat and head to Mercado Artesanal (Monday – Saturday, 9:30 a.m. – 7 p.m., Sunday: 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., Calle Tu´u Koihu). You'll find them in all shapes and sizes. Just remember that whatever you buy, you have to lug home. To expand your wardrobe, try Kiani (Av. Te Pito o Te Henua) which sells traditional Polynesian clothes in every colour and pattern imaginable. Alternatively, choose your own fabric and have something custom-made in one to three days. For something more intellectual, brush up on your Rapa Nui history at Et Cetera (Av. Te Pito o Te Henua) which has an extensive collection of English and Spanish books. Some are a bit tattered: the owners will tell you they're historical relics, but what better way to while away those post-sunset evenings?
