Maitencillo is about 180km northwest from Santiago on the central west coast. The town stretches for around 4km around the beautifully rugged coast that is a mixture of rocky headlands, tranquil white beaches steep cliffs and hills filled with pine and eucalyptus trees. The town is not overdeveloped and has a rustic charm but still enough bars and restaurants to keep you entertained at night.
There are seven beaches to choose from including Playa Grande, Playa Chica, Playa Aguas Blancas, Playa La Caleta, Playa Los Pinos, Playa Los Pocitos and Playa El Abanico. Playa Aguas Blancas, which stretches for almost 5km is the most popular. It has big waves and is popular for surfing and body boarding. During the summer season there is a tourist information hut on Playa El Abanico with information about lodgings, restaurants and events.
