Opened in 1870, Club HÃpico was Santiago’s first horseback riding club. The original building, inspired by the Long Champs Riding Club in France, was destroyed in a fire in 1892. It was subsequently rebuilt and reopened in 1923. In its heyday, Club HÃpico was considered the playground of the elite. It now attracts a more working class crowd and it is still the most popular spot to watch horse racing in Santiago.
The club also has bars and restaurants, a picnic area and landscaped gardens. Go on Monday or Friday if you want to catch live races. The website has up-to-date race schedules.
