The Museo de la Solidaridad Salvador Allende was founded in the early 1970s, but was forced underground during Pinochet’s dictatorship. Now run by the Salvador Allende Foundation, the museum commemorates the life and political career of the deposed socialist President. Many of the artworks were created by artists around the world in support of Allende’s socialist regime. Others were created in protest of Pinochet’s coup, Allende’s subsequent suicide and the dictatorship that followed.
Whether you love or hate Allende’s political policies, the museum offers a kitsch collection of art that dates from the 1960s to 1980s. This isn’t a must-see, but a good stop on a rainy day, or if you have time to kill in Santiago.
