Market
A major fixture in Chilean society, the Mercado may be touristy, but rest assured the tourists are visiting for good reasons. Located in a lovely steel art nouveau building, whose materials are from England, it has much more ambiance than many markets in Latin America.
The major product that is sold in this market is seafood, in particular fresh fish. Everyone you look you see stacks of freshly caught fish, gleaming and ready to be eaten. The many restaurants in and nearby the market that sell creations made with the products from the market, allow visitors to sample what they see in the market. Mercado Central is a great place to go and look around at in the morning than catch a lunch before heading off to see another site in Santiago.
