When to go

You can visit Santiago at any time of the year. Summers (November to February) are hot and dry with average temperatures of 30°C (86° F). February is the hottest month and it can get pretty sticky in the city.

Winter (June to August) has average temperatures of 13°C (55°F) and more rain. The mornings are cold, and at night temperatures drop close to freezing. This is a good time to head to the mountains, about one hour from Santiago, for winter sports.

National holidays are celebrated on September 18, Fiestas Patrias (Independence Day) and September 19, Día de las Glorias del Ejército (Army Day).
