Puerto Natales is a popular launch point for boats and ferries that head into the icy waters of Southern Chile to explore the fjords, glaciers, channels, mountains, indigenous lake-shore forests, and historic towns of the Patagonia region. Many companies offer chances to sportfish, cross-country trek, visit old cattle estancias, or admire the wildlife at sea lion or cormorant colonies where hundreds of breeding birds rest on the ice. Choose from single to multi-day trips that pass by the Glaciers Balmaceda, Serrano, Amalia, the Fjord of Last Hope, and travel into Torres del Paine or Bernardo O’Higgins National Parks. Single-day trips range from $115-150. Overnight trips are significantly more expensive, as most boats dock near fancy hosterías that run from $100-150 a night. Check out Navimag Ferries and Turismo de Mayo for up-to-date information about ferry departures and possible excursions.
