Safety in Puerto Natales

Puerto Natales is mostly a mellow fishing town made up of working class families. The town sees little action outside of the buses of tourists that flow into it. Almost half of the town's population are kids under the age of 18, and with its remote location and its slow climb to modernization, the kids have little to do, so vandalism and petty crimes are bound to happen. Travelers should stick to the downtown are for late night's out, due to the local young folk that often stay out till dawn 'making memories,' especially on weekends. CONAF office in Pto. Natales (park rangers): 61 411438; Pto. Natales police department: 41133
