Posada Hostería Río Verde sits about 60km (37.3mi) northwest of Punta Arenas on an estancia dating to the 1800s, where many of the historic buildings still stand. Guests can enjoy the frozen-in-time feel of the lodge by riding horseback over the grounds, learning the ins and outs of sheep and cattle farming, fishing for trout, sailing in the adjacent Skyring Sound, or just relaxing by the fireplace or in the driftwood-decorated pub. For the more adventurous, however, they do offer backcountry treks and guided climbs of Fitz Roy and Paine (which need to be planned well in advance).
