Onaisín and Estancia Caleta Josefina - Historical Building - Chile

Onaisín was the town associated with Estancia Caleta Josefina and part of its extensive holdings, which also included Pueblo Nuevo. The estancia was founded by the Sociedad Explotadora de Tierra del Fuego as a sheep ranch in 1893. Caleta Josefina was one of the most successful ranches in Tierra del Fuego. Its first administrator was New Zealander Alexander A. Cameron.

Today, all that remain are the health post and a large galpón (storehouse), probably the oldest in the region. At the far edge of Onaisín, on the left side of the road, is the estancia's cemetery, locally also called the cemeterio inglés, English cemetery. Amongst its 40-some tombs is that of Emma Victoria Crawford, Cameron's wife. The graveyard was declared a Monumento Nacional in 1976.
