Porvenir proffers its visitors enough some simple treasures to lure them to spend at least an afternoon in this quiet, bayside town. The village has distinctive Fuegian architecture, reflecting the predominant influence of the Croatian and Chilote immigrant population. A walk along the costanera makes for a pleasant outing, as it brings natural and human history together. A visit to Museo Provincial Fernando Cordero Rusque is also high on the list. If you have an extra day to spare, walk out to Monumental Natural Laguna de los Cisnes for some prime birdwatching, or take a boat tour of Bahía de Porvenir to see dolphins.
Porvenir also serves as a convenient base for touring the surrounding countryside, around the Circuito Histórico Cultural, the Ruta de Oro, or that of Petróleo. Longer expeditions can be arranged from here, like fishing at Lago Blanco, Río Cordón and other great trout holes, or trekking in Cordillera Darwin, Parque Nacional Alberto de Agostini and other reserves.
