The Museo Regional de Ancud is small, but nevertheless fits in an impressive collection of artifacts and exhibits, which weave together the islands’ history from the indigenous past through the arrival of the Europeans and the 1960 earthquake. Especially interesting are the collections of tools used by the native Chilotes, as well as weapons from the Spanish colonizers, maps from Dutch pirates, and a pictures of the earthquake’s aftermath. An enormous blue whale skeleton is displayed outside. Exhibits are labeled in Spanish only.
