Founded in 1988, and housed inside a series of barns, the Castro art museum (known by its acronym, “MAM”) focuses on local and national contemporary works. If the paintings aren’t to your liking, you’ll also get a nice view of the Castro cityscape from MAM’s hilltop location. Unfortunately, this is one part of town not within walking distance, though a shared taxi along San Martín will drop you off at the door for $1, or take a bus for slightly less (it will leave you about a 10-minute walk from the museum). Call ahead to make sure the museum is open.
