Most of what Castro tour operators have to offer are trips you could easily do on your own, though if you’re short on time, and enjoy the background information provided by a guide, touring the national park (standard rate: $15), or visiting Chiloé’s most important churches in one day ($15), are adventures to consider. Prices and itineraries tend to be fairly standardized, but be sure to shop around. You’re also better off taking a tour in the high season; some tour operators shut down entirely in off-peak months, and you’ll pay higher rates without a critical mass of other travelers joining you on the trip.
