When to go to Chiloé

Large numbers of national and foreign visitors depart for Chiloé in January and February, when the weather’s clearest, and there’s a full calendar of cultural festivals. This influx is most noticeable in tiny Cucao, the gateway to the national park, though in general Chiloé copes well with incomers. Keep in mind that the months of December and March offer low-season rates, fewer crowds, and decent weather, though if you’re intent on limiting your exposure to downpours, you’ll want to stick to the high-season months. Unless you have an unnatural affinity for rain and wind, avoid the winter.
