Take an hour out to learn about the history of Osorno. With rooms dedicated to paleontology, archaeology, the founding and re-founding of the city, and immigrant and Mapuche-Huilliche culture, the Museo Histórico Municipal takes you from the pre-human past to the present. Highlights include a gallery that displays the fauna of the region and another that exhibits scale models of the German architecture and photos of the 1960 earthquake. Be sure to check out the interactive section in the basement.
The neo-classic building, the former home of the Schilling Buschmann family, also houses the city’s archives and the Pinteca Municipal Arturo Montecino, a collection of paintings by the Generación de 42 group of artists.
