Pucón Things to See and Do

follow us

Pucón is internationally famous for its trekking, volcano climbing, rafting, kayaking, thermal pools and winter sports. Birdwatching and fly fishing also put Pucón on the sporting map. The Mapuche museum and nearby villages provide insight into this native culture. The cuevas volcánicas (volcanic caves) give an inside view of lava flows (daily 10 a.m.ge { margin: 2cm } P { margin-bottom: 0.21cm } -->- 7 p.m. Km 14.5 Camino al volcán). Pucón also has sky diving opportunities. One outfit providing this energy rush is Skydive Pucón (Aeropuerto Pucón, Tel.: 9-8200194 / 9360687, E-mail: peter.vermehren@gmail.com, URL: www.skydivepucón.cl). If you’re looking for something a bit less stressful, shoot a round at Mini Golf Alü Antü (km 3.5 Camino Internacional, URL: www.minigolfpucon.cl). Leisurely tours around the lake can be taken in Vapor Chucao, a 1905 steamship, or in a peddle boat.

In the lower level of the Hotel Araucaria, the owner tells us the history of the Mapuche people, native of this Land of Lakes that now is part of Chile. Once, not too long ago, these lands were their independent nation, fiercely defended against the invading Spaniards and Chileans. In this small...

Paddling

Paddling

Take your pick of how you want to traverse the rivers slicing Pucón’s countryside. Of course, whitewater rafting down the Liucura (to Class III rapids) and Trancura (Class III-IV) are a tradition. Kayaking is another way to paddle around these waterways, whether on Río Liucura or Lago...

Mountain Biking near Pucón

In the countryside around Pucón are many natural wonders. Some are only accessible in private vehicle—or by bike. Popular day outings are the waterfalls Ojos de Caburgua, the Cuevas Volcánicas, a series of cascades on the road to Palguín and the hot springs that steam across the landscape....

Horseback Riding

In the saddle, swaying with the rhythm of your horse is another way to take in the spectacular scenery at a slower pace. It is also a wonderful way to meet the huasos (cowboys), campesinos and Mapuche indigenous villages of the Pucón region. Some common destinations are Liucura and Quelhue. It is...
