In the lower level of the Hotel Araucaria, the owner tells us the history of the Mapuche people, native of this Land of Lakes that now is part of Chile. Once, not too long ago, these lands were their independent nation, fiercely defended against the invading Spaniards and Chileans. In this small museum, his family’s private collection painstakingly gathered over the years, you can learn about the silver jewelry, stone clavas, or staffs of power, wood carving and other crafts that played significant roles in Mapuche culture and society.
