Madre Tierra promises cocina de montaña (mountain cooking) and cultura (culture) to its dining clientele. It succeeds in accomplishing just that. Working with a palette of local fruits of Mother Earth, the chef creates fantastic novo-Chilean food based on native Mapuche and immigrant Spanish, German, Croat and other cuisines. Ciervo (venison), jabalí (wild boar), salmon and trout are specialties. Regional cheeses, sausages and wild fruit liqueurs are highlighted. In the restaurant, hand-woven table runners grace the hewn-wood and wrought iron mesas. The house red wine is a carmenère. À la carte from $9. Open Wednesday-Sunday 12:30-4 p.m., 7-11 p.m.
