Accommodations in Puerto Montt cover an even wider range than in other cities, precisely because this is a port. At the bottom are the hotels of mala muerte (bad death) and brothels. Budget lodging with an ambiente familiar — family atmosphere — are located near the bus terminal, along Calles Mira, Lota, V. Pérez Rosales and Ancud. In the high season (mid-December to early-March), national holidays and weekends lodging can be difficult to find. If arriving without reservations, it is best to look after the checkout time at noon. But be advised to hustle fast, as they fill quickly. Outside Andén (Lane) 11 at the bus station is an official lodging kiosk. In summer several albergues, or dorms, are set up at local schools. Check with the municipal tourism office for listings. On the road to Chinquihue are several campgrounds.
