The big items on Puertomontino menus are the fruits of the seas and rivers—as is to be expected. All types of seafood and fishes, like merluza (hake, similar to cod) and salmon, tempt travelers’ palates. Many restaurants offer colaciones, or a main dish with side, for $2-4. Complete three-course lunches, or almuerzo or menú ejecutivo, cost $5-8. Beware of dishonest practices by some restaurants, such as up-grading your order or quoting you the wrong price. Most eateries are closed on Sunday. Across from the bus station are two large supermarkets: Santa Isabel (Avenida Salvador Allende and Avenida Diego Portales) and Full Fresh Market (Avenida Diego Portales and E. Lillo).
