Portal del Sur is just a hole-in-the-wall eatery with a half-dozen tables crowded into the small space. The sole meal served is the almuerzo, or lunch, a two-course affair with drink and bread. Don’t expect more than one choice on any day. Portal del Sur is a popular place to grab a good, home-cooked meal at an excellent price. In the evening the señora devotes her kitchen to only whipping up snacks for the bar clientele. Lunch special $4 (noon to 3 p.m., unless it runs out beforehand). Open Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-midnight, closed Sunday (unless there’s a football game on the tube).
