The Iglesia Sagrado Corazón de Jesus is a great example of the architecture, vibe and serenity you can find in Puerto Varas. Built between 1915 and 1918 by Edmundo Niklitschek, this mainstay of the community is considered the most important Catholic Church by locals. It is based on the Marienkirche of the Black Forest in Germany and is built in the neo-romantic style. The light yellow building is made more brilliant by its red details and roof. The locals come in droves on Sundays to partake in mass held in the morning and evenings. After mass the serene music from the church service can be heard throughout the center of town. The church is closed after mass so be sure to visit during times of prayer.
