Volcano Osorno

Volcano Osorno, elevation 2652 meters (8701 feet), is located on the northeast end of Lake Llanquihue, 51 kilometers from Puerto Varas. The pristine drive along the lake eventually leads into the volcano’s protected national forest. The mountain is the southerly sister to Mount Fuji and seems like a smaller replica with its perfect cone shape. The road has been recently paved and is in great condition, although it is steep in some areas and caution should be practiced in snowy conditions. At 1200 meters (3937 feet) you will come upon the base of the small ski area, Centro de Ski y Montaña. The views here are magnificent and look out over the dense forests surrounding Lake Llanquihue, Volcano Calbuco and the Pacific Ocean. The ski area has two new chair lifts that are open year-round as well as a small cafeteria and ski rentals. Tickets for the chairlift are 8500 Chilean Pesos (US$18).There is ample terrain for beginner and intermediate. For those interested in more excitement or randonee skiing, it is possible to ascend the mountain with or without a guide, depending on ability and experience. Practice caution and respect for the required glacier travel above the lifts.

follow route 225 51 km towards Ensenada, take left into national park Vicente Peréz Rosales, turning right at KM 5. Follow road till the end.
