Temuco is a good place to pick up all you'll need for camping, fly fishing, snow sports and other outdoor activities.
• Camping—Donem (Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Montt 788, Tel: 56-45-27-3508)—Tents, sleeping bags, stoves, gas canisters.
• Fishing—Olleta Caza y Pesca (Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-7:15 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Prat 439). Several other shops are on Portales, between Cruz and Mackenna. All have excellent stock of rods, reels, flies and spinners.
• Snow sports—Ski Aventura (Avenida Caupolicán 499, Tel:56-45-74-1285)—Sells and rents ski and snowboarding equipment.
Artisan work can be bought at the Mercado Municipal. Wanglen Zome is a women’s collective (Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Aldunate and Claro Solar, Tel: 56-45-8-981-7993). Chol Chol is a fair trade organization specializing in traditional Mapuche weaving (Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Camino Temuco a Imperial Km. 16, Tel: 56-45-61-4007, E-mail: info@cholchol.org, URL: www.cholchol.org); the Museo Regional de la Araucanía carries its creations.
Temuco is no stranger to the modern mall, either, as it has two of them: Mall Portal Temuco (Avenida Alemán 0671) and Mall Mirage (Torremolinos 410).
