With lakes, forests, mountains and parks galore, the Lake District offers great outdoors activities, like rafting, kayaking, hiking, horseback riding, fishing and canopying. While excellent transport infrastructure makes independent travel easy and safe, it is most convenient to book day trips for the more technical activities, like whitewater sports or volcano ascents (which require a guide).
