Like anywhere in the Lake District, salmon and trout fishing is excellent in Lago Villarrica. Villarrica is graced with three beaches: Playa Pucara and El Pescadito right in town, and Playa Blanca on the other side of the Río Toltén. In summer boat tours embark from the muelle at the north end of Avenida Costanera ($6 per person). Another outdoor activity is to climb Mirador Canela. In the cultural realm, Villarrica has a Mapuche cultural center and two museums. The Museo Arqueológico Municipal conducts city tours in the summer Monday-Saturday 10 a.m. The Catedral, built 1950-1958, has two interesting paintings by the Italian artist Giulio di Girdamo (Henríquez and O’Higgins).
