Wenteche Mapu is a Mapuche cultural center in the heart of Villarrica. Here visitors can learn about the customs and religious beliefs of this indigenous nation. In the center of the compound is a ruka, or traditional round hut, which shows what this people’s homes are like. Presentations are given here at times. The grounds are surrounded by stands where families sell cheese, jams, plants, weavings, carvings and jewelry. After shopping and watching presentations, grab a bite of traditional Mapuche cooking at the eatery in the corner.
