The easiest and most common way to come into town is to take one of the major bus lines (TurBus, Pullman), which almost always cross Los Vilos on their way to and from Santiago. There’s a chance, however, that you won’t be dropped off at the terminal by some buses with more distance to cover (from Arica, for instance). You’ll instead be left on the outskirts of town, where you’ll have to ask one of the frequently passing colectivos to drop you somewhere along Av. Caupolican, the main street in Los Vilos. It’s best to ask when you buy your ticket whether the bus makes a stop at the terminal.
Leaving the town, there are several companies that run out of Los Vilos, each with specific destinations. To get to La Calera, Viña del Mar, or Valparaíso, you’ll need to use Buses Intercomunal. Buses Combarbala sends buses to La Calera and Santiago. For other destinations, Pullman and Tur Bus both have offices located on Av. Caupolican.
