Norte Chico highlights

The region of Norte Chico is rich in highlights. Chile’s second oldest city, La Serena, is located in the region, and is home to some of the most beautiful beaches and interesting churches in the nation. There is no real way to plan on desierto florido, when sufficient moisture nurtures the arid desert around Vallenar into full bloom between late July and September, but if you happen to be in the right place at the right time it is a wonderful sight. Parque Nacional Nevado Tres Cruces is not one of Chile’s most visited parks - which is its appeal for those who like to wander off the beaten path to view the snow-capped volcanoes and wildlife. The Elqui Valley is the home to delicious pisco sours, the nation’s favorite drink, You can also check out the dolphins, sea lions and penguins at Reserva Natural Pingüino de Humboldt.
