There is plenty to do and see in Norte Chico. La Serena, the nation’s second oldest city has some of the longest stretching beaches and most interesting churches in Chile. Do not miss desierto florido, when moisture nurtures the arid desert around Vallenar into full bloom between late July and September, but the natural phenomenon is not guaranteed to occur while you are in the area. Parque Nacional Nevado Tres Cruces has great appeal for those who like to wander off the beaten path to view the snow-capped volcanoes and wildlife. Venture further to the indescribably magnificent Laguna Verde and Ojos del Salado near the Argentine border or visit the white beaches and clear waters at Bahia Inglesa near Caldera.
