La Serena Beaches

A walk down Av. Francisco de Aguirre from the center of town leads to a quaint lighthouse, the Avenida del Mar and La Serena’s long, popular beach. The beach is not nearly as pristine as others along Chile’s coast, but it is an extremely popular destination for Chilenos in January and February. Lined with hotels, above-average restaurants and pubs, the beach is a Mecca of activity during the summer months. It looks more like a wasteland during the rest of the year.
