La Serena’s Museo Arqueológico, a mid-sized museum displaying archaeological findings from all over Chile, serves as a solid introduction to the history of the first people to populate the country. An impressive display of diaguita pottery (some discovered in the small Elqui Valley pueblo of San Isidro) and tools and jewelry from around the country form the majority of the museum’s collection. Plus, there are a few shrunken heads and a mummy. But the main attraction is a giant Moai from Easter Island.
Information for all displays is written in Spanish.
