This museum is actually a former adobe house designed by 19th century architect José Viera. It is named after the former Chilean president (1946 – 1952) who was born in La Serena and gave back to his birth city by creating urban renewal plan that ushered in the neocolonial architecture that surrounds the Plaza de Armas. Videla and his family had once owned the house, but it now belongs to the city. The inside is filled with important historical documents detailing La Serena's long history, as well as artifacts surrounding Videla's political and personal life, including furniture, photographs and layouts of his architectural plan for La Serena.
