When to go
A lot of tourists skip past Antofagasta because it is not terribly interesting. But if you do go, a good time to stop through is on February 14 when the town celebrates the anniversary of its founding with fireworks at the Balneario Municipal near the southern end of Av. Grecia. Expect desert weather, so bring warm clothes for evenings and light clothes for afternoons.
