Getting Around Arica

Minibuses frequently run within the city and to surrounding areas. Many pass by 18 de Septiembre, including those for the national and international bus terminals ($0.70). Colectivo taxis have yellow license plates and run on set routes that are announced on a roof sign ($1). Routes 8, 10 and 11, or any that says “Avenida Santa María,” go past the terminals. Radiotaxis, or the normal cab, have orange plates. They can be flagged down on the street or phoned $2.10. Many major car rental agencies operate in Arica: Budget (Colón 996, Tel: 25-9911, Fax: 25-8918, E-mail:, URL: Hertz (Baquedano 999, Tel: 23-1487) Avis (Guillermo Sánchez 660, Tel.: 22-8051).
