When to Go to Arica

Rain only comes to Arica as the rare drop. Temperatures average 18°C (65°F) and nights are cool. During most of the year, clouds form during the dark hours, but burn off by noon.

 

Arica is popular during the summer months, when there are free movies, volleyball tournaments, concerts and other events at Chinchorro and La Lisera beaches and on Plaza Baquedano in town. Some of the festivities are:

January—Carnaval Andino Intichallampi

February—Andean carnaval with the Fuerza del Sol ceremonies

May—Fiesta de la Cruz de Mayo (Feast of the May Cross)

August—World Surf Championship

September 18-19—Fiestas Patrias, which marks Chile’s independence
