Most tourists quickly skip through Calama to head for San Pedro de Atacama. Calama itself is unremarkable, expensive and can be relatively dangerous in many places once the sun sets, so it is probably best to use it as a short place to stock up on necessary items. However, if you are looking for tour operators in town, check at reliable agencies such as Chuqui Tour (Latorre 1512, Tel: 340190, Fax: 362570 - see below for details), Atacama Spirit (Riquelme 4326, Fax: 365151), Atacama Indomita (Sotomayor 1971, Tel: 361102) or Atacama Park Adventure (Camino Aeropuerto 1392, Tel: 447700). One of the best adventure tour agencies is Keps (Sotomayor 1812, Tel: 318983).
For more information on tours and cultural events around town, check out Calama's Corporacion de Cultura y Turismo (Open 8:00a.m. – 1:00p.m.; 2:00 – 6:00p.m., Latorre 1689, Tel: 565-553-1707, URL: www.calamacultural.cl)
