The Museo Naval de Iquique is located on the south side of the old Aduana building. Dedicated to one of the most important sea battles of the Guerra del Pacífico, maps and dioramas recount the blow to blow action of that fateful May 21, 1879. Exhibits also include artifacts of the two ships that sank that day, the Esmeralda of Chile and the Independence of Perú. Around the corner, in the main part of the ex-Aduana, are displays about Iquique’s history. A supplemental collection of big guns and anchors are at the Naval Base near the bus terminal (Monday-Friday 10-11:30 a.m., 2-4 p.m.)
