Getting Around Iquique

Micros, or urban minibuses, go many places within the city and up to Alto Hospicio (until 10 p.m., $0.80-1). Colectivos are shared taxis that run set routes ($1). Radio taxis, or cabs, are phoned or flagged down on the street ($2.50 and up).

Bicycles are another way to zip around the city and to the beaches. Centrally located Arrendamos Bicicletas (Baquedano 1440, Tel.: 41-7599, E-mail: paseandoenbici@gmail.com) provides chain, lock and helmet with its rentals (1.5 hours $4, five hours $7, eight hours $12, plus $20 security deposit).

Some places around Iquique are easier to reach in a rented car: Thrifty (Lynch 898, Tel.: 47-2612), Avis (M. Rodríguez 722-730, Tel.: 57-4330; airport Tel. 40-7049), Hertz (Aníbal Pinto 1303, Tel.: 51-0432; airport Tel.: 41-0924).
