Pisagua is 183 kilometers (114 mi) south of Arica and 168 kilometers (104 mi) north of Iquique. Take Ruta 5 (Pan-American Highway) to Ruta A-40.
Without a private vehicle, it is difficult to get to Pisagua. OC Travel in Iquique is the only agency to offer tours to the village (Serrano 389, oficina 407, Tel.: 57-3260 / 57-3263, E-mail: info@octravel.cl, URL: www.octravel.cl). Reportedly a buseta departs from Iquique’s Terminal Internacional Rodoviario (Avenida Prat and Lynch, Tel.: 41-6315) Monday and Friday at 5 p.m.; it departs Pisagua for Iquique the same days at 7 a.m. During the summer, a daily service is contracted; ask at Iquique’s municipality and with Sernatur for details.
On the Pan-American Highway, 10 kilometers (6 miles) north of the A-40 turn-off is Hacienda Tiliviche and the British cemetery. Across the road are the Geoglifos de Tiliviche. From here, a poor dirt road goes to Pisagua Viejo, which has been destroyed by a mid-19th Century earthquake, and connects with Pisagua’s cemetery road.
