Around the plaza are several artisan shops selling locally made alpaca sweaters, scarves, shawls, ruandas (ponchos) and other woolen goods. Some also have the run-of-the-mill souvenirs and post cards. Most close noon-3 p.m. for lunch. Taller de Artesanía Demonstrativo has a large selection of items woven of alpaca, sheep and llama wool. All items are made on-site (Calle Carrera 521, Tel.: 08-504-4985). Another shop specializing in not only woolens, but also ceramics, wood and cactus carvings, and alpaca leatherwear is Artesanías Chungará (Carrera 401, Tel.: 08-955-5111).
