By Richard McColl

Right in the thick of things on Calle 10 (across the road from the Ministry of Foreign Relations) and one block up the hill from the Plaza de Bolivar is the delightfully ornate and decorative Teatro Colon. This is really the centerpiece theater for Colombia. Opened in 1892, it can seat up to 900 people. If you are lucky enough , your visit will coincide with some performance or concert that will allow you to fully appreciate one of the continent's most beautiful theaters.
