Restaurants in La Candelaria run the gastronomic gamut. International cuisine include Israeli and Middle Eastern, Italian and French, Japanese and Thai -- and even Mexican. Because several universities are in the area, hamburger, arepa and pizza fast-food joints are common and cheap alternatives.
Novo-Colombian bistros are also common. Many feature live jazz and other relaxing music to dine by. Near the neighborhood, there are also down-home eateries serving Colombian classics like ajiaco and sancocho, and typical asados from ther country's broad Llanos region. A word of caution, however: many restaurants are closed on Sunday.
Candelaria has several neighborhood grocer stores and bakeries. OlĂmpica supermarkets (Av JimĂ©nez 4-74 and Cra 4, 18-42) and Ley (Cra 7, near Plaza BolĂvar) offer a greater variety of goods.
