Agroecotur

This unusual, non-profit tour agency is made up of Colombian Network of Private Nature Reserves. The guides are the families and neighbors of these farms and non-profit environmental NGOs. It is a combination of these people and the owners who control everything about a tour, including the design and operation. According to Agroecotur, the “views, forms, sounds, smells and flavors” that tourists take in are 100 percent.

The organization's work cements its reputation by working with local and regional government agencies that work to develop eco- and agrotourism and other international organizations, including World Wildlife Fund, The World Bank and The Nature Conservancy. Agroecotur hopes to eventually establish a National Network of Agrotourism and Ecotourism Services.

This is a tour agency that works very in depth with their locations and personnel. Every spot is evaluated based on nature and the commitment of the people in the community. The ecotourism agency was founded in 2003 as a way to “ to develop ‘destination management companies’” for every nature reserve they list and to promote a local and international sustainability and awareness for Colombia’s systems. Agroector’s Executive Director, Daniel Uribe, describes his organization’s goal as this: “Better management and increased sustainability of private nature reserves through ecotourism, supporting conservation and the well being of local people.”

Agroecotur uses locations that are part of the Colombian Network of Private Nature Reserves, which is a network of nature reserves voluntarily created by their owners. All Agroecotur´s tours, farms and reserves are in those places safe to travel. It doesn’t include any nature reserves or farms that are in conflict zones. The organization hopes to bring peace to its country through developing ecotourism, agrotourism and geotourism.

Agroecotur classifies Colombia into five ecoregions: Andean, Orinoquean, Amazon, Pacific (Chocó) and Caribbean. Anywhere that Agroecotur has willing host family, tourists will be sent. The organization offers seven viable tours that each go to unique locations in Colombia. Tours are specially organized for each client, depending on costs and interests. Fore example, if you are interested in history and culture, then you will probably be put up in a Craftsman Country home and learn about traditional cooking and local folklore.

All tour groups are limited to less than 15 people and one guide per every seven people, in order to better control quality and any environmental or social impact. Agroecotur has 28 destinations and 14 organized tours, which cover Colombia’s rich cultural and biodiversity.

Please contact us and we will organize a plan for you in any of our tourist destinations, according to your needs. 28 tourist units among private nature reserves, farms and country homes had established tourism services, supporting 14 programmed excursions, achieving a nice and diverse portfolio of opportunities for travelers wanting to see Colombia and enjoy its astonishing biological richness. Destinations previously unknown are now visible, benefiting travelers, communities and rural families.

Prices for packages that offer lodging and tours start at less than 30.000 Colombian pesos per person per night, including breakfast, to more than 50.000 Colombian pesos per person per night.
