Holiday & Fiesta
A hamlet as ancient as Barichara of course has a number of festivals. Some are religious and many celebrate the arts for which this pueblo is renowned.
Last Sunday of January—Patrimonio Cultural Patiamarillo, with a focus on the
stonecravers.
11 February—Virgen de la Piedra, the patron saint of carvers
Semana Santa (Easter Week), with processions
10 August—San Lorenzo Mártir, the patron saint of Barichara
Puente de Octubre (12 October)—Fiestas Culturales de la Solidaridad y el Retorno
End of November / beginning of December—Olimpiados Campesinos, the country folks’ Olympic Games
8 December—Inmaculada Concepción, the other patron saint of the village
16-24 December—Aguinaldo Patiamarillo, the Christmas novena celebrated in Patiamarillo style, with music, theater, poetry and art
28 December—Día de los Angelitos Pichones, akin to April Fool’s Day
31 December—Quemado del Viejo, the burning of effigies representing the Old
Year
Every other year, in odd years, is the Festival de la Talla en Piedra, or the Stone Carvers Festival.
