City Park

By Lorraine Caputo

Bucaramanguenses are proud of their Ciudad de Parques, a well-deserved nickname for this city of almost two dozen parks. Parque Santander is the modern downtown. Down the bustling streets you'll find Plaza Cívica Luis Carlos Galán, around which are governmental buildings, and Parque García Rovira, the hub of the colonial town; here is the oldest church of this metropolis. Heading towards Floridablanca is Parque Los Lagos, a popular recreational area. Floridablanca has the Jardín Botánico Eloy Valenzuela. Piedecuesta is home to the zoo. On the northeast edge of Bucaramanga, on the road to Cúcuta, is Parque Morrorico with pleasant views.
