Floridablanca, one of Bucaramanga’s bedroom communities eight kilometers (five miles) away, is a popular place to seek refuge from the city, especially on Sundays. A wondrous garza fountain in its plaza spritzes the raspado (flavored shaved ice) and oblea (wafer and caramel sandwich) vendors. A few blocks away is the Piedra del Sol, a massive boulder with spirals and circles carved by Guane ancestors a millenium or more ago. A modern casa de cultura with an archaeological museum surrounds it. About a kilometer away is the Jardín Botánico Eloy Valenzuela, once owned by El Paragüitas tobacco company.
