Capitanejo Things to See and Do

Capitanejo may seem just a scorching pueblito straddling a highway, but it does hide a few cool spots beneath that dust. For the traveller interested in religious attractions, there is the village church, San Bartolomé, the Centro de Peregrinación El Carmen and the Santuario del Sagrado Corazón with great views over the river valley. Down near the Puente La Palmera spanning the Río Chicamocha, are playas where you can take a free dip. For a more structured swim, go to one of the balnearios.

Hike out to La Chorrera waterfall, raft down the Chicamocha, drop your line in at the Hacienda La Alejandría for some trout, or rock climb El Tablón and Las Juntas. There’s a bit of everything for all in Capitanejo.
